CHI - Trustees

Rosie Barnes Rosie Barnes, OBE: CHI Patron. Rosie Barnes was born and educated in Nottingham. After completing a degree in Social Sciences and History at the University of Birmingham, she moved to London in 1967 to join Unilever as a management trainee. She eventually established her own business in qualitative market research.

In 1987 she won a notable by-election and became the Social Democratic Party Member of Parliament for Greenwich, a position she held until 1992.

Her interest in Health Policy was instrumental in her decision to move into the charity sector, firstly for The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and from 1996 to 2010 as Chief Executive of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. Her priorities there included the progress of research to facilitate Gene Therapy for Cystic Fibrosis and to ensure that everyone affected by CF in the UK received the best possible clinical care.

Rosie has been married to Graham Barnes for over 40years. They have three grown up children and are now proud grandparents.

Chris Dr. Chris Rolles: CHI president. Chris is a retired paediatric specialist in Cystic Fibrosis and is largely responsible for the transformation of the treatment of cycstic fibrosis in Russia. Married with 4 sons, he lives in Southampton.
Rick Rick Foulsham CMG. Following a career as a diplomat, Rick is now Chief Executive of Hope and Homes for Children, an international children's charity with programmes across Africa and Central and Eastern Europe. Married with grown up children, he lives near Winchester.
Jim Hopwood Jim Hopwood: CHI Company Chairman. Jim is an engineer with experience managing multinational teams in industry and academia. He is a former trustee of Oxfam and recently set up Sustainability Partners, a small charity supporting self help groups in poor communities. He is a keen small boat sailor, has four grown up children and lives in the New Forest.
Julian Dr. Julian Legg: Medical Consultant to CHI. Julian qualified from Cambridge University in 1990. He subsequently underwent a wide ranging training program at various institutes throughout the world. Having worked at Birmingham Children's hospital and St Georges's University Hospital, he trained at Great Ormond Street Hospital and Southampton University. He completed his training at the Children's Hospital in Perth, West Australia before returning as a consultant to Southampton.
Michael Michael Ridgway. Son of the founders of the charity, Roy and Dorothea Ridgway, Michael has been a trustee for several years. He is a one-time actor and self-employed carpenter. He has 4 grown-up children and whenever possible spends half the year in India, usually from April to September. In 2005 he completed a sponsored cycle ride for CHI from Lands End to John O Groats.
Bill Bill Salmond: CHI Company Treasurer. Bill recently retired as Managing Director of Geest Line Ltd, a shipping company specialising in the Caribbean. He qualified as a Chartered Management Accountant. He is married with two grown up daughters and lives in a village in the Itchen Valley.
Stephen Stephen Todd. Stephen recently retired from a technical career in IBM and is Visiting Professor in the computing department at Goldsmiths, University of London. He is also involved in a charity for appropriate development in Sumbawanga, Tanzania. Other interests are music and recreational cycling. Stephen is married with two children and lives in Winchester. He has been a trustee of CHI for several years, and has responsibility for CHI's website.
Tony Tony Wolstenholme. Former naval officer a weapon engineer by specialisation. Tony is a Russian speaker and has managed projects for CHI. He became a Trustee and Chairman of Trustees on 14th March 2007. He works as a legal services consultant, with a home in Windsor, and is married with 4 grown up children.


Jane Brown Jane Brown: CHI Company Secretary and Coordinator (not a trustee). Jane Brown has worked for many years in the voluntary and community sector having held an executive role managing a regional charity advising on EU funding.  Her experience of working with grant funding, project management and achieving a best practice award will enhance the development of CHI.
Haydn Daniel: CHI Bookkeeper (not a trustee). Haydn is a semi retired Post Office Manager. He is married to Prue and inherited four step sons- now almost grown up. He and Prue are committed Christians and attend ChristChurch Anglican Church in Winchester, they are also active volunteers of the Winchester Churches Night Shelter.
Marcus Haw: Medical Advisor to CHI (not a Trustee). Consultant Cardiac Surgeon at Southampton University Hospital, specializing in both child and adult cardiac surgery. His special interests include minimally invasive procedures. http://www.ctsnet.org/home/mhaw
